Description
Aquamarine is a very popular colour of seaglass. This piece has a wonderful depth to it and a large air bubble near the top. Air bubbles in glass were formed from a time when all glass was handblown before machines did the job. This method changed around 1900 so this piece of glass definitely has some history to it. The surface of the glass contains the typical ‘c’ feature found on genuine seaglass that has been tumbled in the ocean. This piece was found on Porthcressa Beach, St Mary’s on the Isles of Scilly.
The seaglass measures approximately 17mm tall and 15mm wide, set in recycled silver with a silver chain.
Porthcressa beach is situated in Hugh Town, St Mary’s. A beautiful sandy beach in a sheltered cove it is backed by a wide promenade with plenty of benches to sit and watch the world go by. St Mary’s is the largest of the Isles of Scilly, situated 28 miles off the coast of Cornwall in the Atlantic Ocean. It is here that the Scillonian ferry docks and the airport is situated with smaller ferries linking you onwards to the other islands. The islands main settlement is Hugh Town where you will find plenty of eating establishments, shops, galleries and other facilities. The island boasts many white sandy beaches, ancient settlements and glorious views across to the other islands. A perfect day-trip destination from Penzance.
