Join Laura of Porth Jewellery in a fun and inspiring workshop, making your own
piece of seaglass jewellery in Falmouth or Constantine, Cornwall.
Whether you are a keen maker, looking for an activity to do with friends, meet new people or on holiday in Cornwall, I will help you create a piece of seaglass jewellery to treasure in our workshops. A great way to meet like-minded people, learn new skills and create a piece of jewellery to be proud of.
You can choose between making a seaglass ring or necklace. There is now the new added option of making a seaglass bangle (additional supplement). All require a silver bezel setting which we will make first together. Then, each variation will be explained and demonstrated to you. This way, if you have booked as a group, you can all attend the same session. Mari’s blue seaglass ring is shown alongside her Porth Jewellery seaglass ring. She was keen to add to her stacking rings in the session with both pieces of seaglass found by her on different family holidays. << Necklaces >> You will make 2 silver jump rings to attach your setting to the chain. These can be simple circles or you may wish to make different shapes and sizes. You can also choose to add texture too. You will be able to choose between different chain lengths: 16″, 18″, 20″, 24″ All chains are the same as advertised on the website which are silver curb diamond cut chains. << Rings >> We will measure your ring size and calculate the measurement to cut silver wire. If the ring you are making is not for you, you will need to come with the ring size. You will form the ring and add texture before we join it to your setting. You can choose from 1.2mm or 2.3mm wire on the day after looking at examples. << Bangles >> We will measure your hand size and calculate the measurement to cut silver wire. If the bangle you are making is not for you, you will need to come with the size. You will add texture to the wire before forming it into a bangle and joining it to your setting. Your bangle will be formed using 2mm round wire. *There is an additional cost for the extra silver. This can be added when booking* >> Before the session: If you have your own seaglass please send me a photo before to check that it is suitable. If you would like to choose seaglass from the Porth collections, I would ask at this time that you contact me before the session so that we can choose a piece before, therefore limiting the amount of pieces touched. You can contact me on social media or here. It may help if you think about the colour and size that you would like to help you make a decision! Looking at our instagram pages may help you to think about what seaglass you would like: >> At the session: You would be greeted with a tea or coffee and the workshop will be explained in more detail. More details will be sent to you a week before your booked date. We will start by checking our seaglass and making the settings, learning how to saw, file, join and finish. > If you are making a ring you will then measure your ring size and calculate the length of wire needed. You will be given a choice of ring width and shown a variety of finishes you can add. > If you choose to make a necklace you will be shown how to make jump rings and can add your own design touches. >If you wish to make a bangle you will be shown how to measure your bangle size and calculate the length of wire needed. You will use 2mm wire and be shown two ways of adding your seaglass setting. Your pieces will be polished whilst you enjoy a hot drink and biscuits. To complete the session you will be shown how to set the seaglass into your jewellery and your creations will be photographed. << session length >> Seaglass Sessions start at 9am and run until approximately 3pm depending how chatty the group is! The sessions run for 3-5 people and include all materials to make a seaglass ring, necklace or bangle (supplement for extra silver costs), refreshments and tuition. You will need to bring your own lunch. If you are at the Falmouth venue then there are many places near-by to pick up something nice to eat. If you would like to purchase gift boxes for your creations (if you haven’t made yourself something you want to wear straight away!) then these can be purchased at the end for a small fee. << Please note: >> As there are various tools involved there is strictly no alcohol to be consumed before or during the sessions. We can only accept people over 18 at this time. These workshops are not suitable for people wishing to start a similar business venture. I would recommend her classes to anyone as I was able learn so much and take away a beautiful ring I will cherish! Thank you so much”. Tash August 2020 “I had the pleasure to go to Seaglass Sessions in Falmouth last week. Laura, our tutor, guided us expertly through all the skills of jewellery making. We used various tools including a dremel, a file, a blow torch and a coping saw. I chose to make a ring; and in the process Laura helped and advised, but allowed me to work on it totally independently. I was astonished and so delighted with what I produced; a unique pale blue seaglass ring. It is beautiful! Thank you so much for the great experience Laura. I thoroughly recommend anyone to go along to this; such a fun way to spend a few hours with friends and come away with a piece of jewellery that you have made.” Tania, September 2019 “I couldn’t have imagined such a super time on our Seaglass Session. Laura provided a relaxed environment and gave clear and patient guidance to create our pieces of jewellery. It was a perfect opportunity for my friend Tania and I to spend quality time together and feel completely absorbed in our creativity. I was absolutely thrilled with my finished piece and gave this as a gift made with my own hands and from my heart I’d love to come on another workshop with Laura and feel this could be an ideal gift idea or session to spend creating something magical with friends. Bess, September 2019 “I attended one of Laura’s workshops with a group of friends that I don’t get to see as much as I like to. I had a piece of blue sea glass from a recent family holiday to Portugal. I wanted to make a ring as a souvenir of a great holiday and as a souvenir of a great day with friends. I was never great at DT at school but I was really please with the ring I made. Laura’s relaxed approach meant that I created a beautiful piece of jewellery and got to catch up with friends. It was lovely and I can highly recommend.” Mari, September 2019 “I wish I could do Laura’s workshop every Saturday morning. It was a fantastic way to spend the morning. I learnt new skills under the guidance of Laura’s expertise and created my first piece of jewellery. If you want to create something truely unique, this is for you.” Gwyn, September 2019 June Friday 10th Saturday 11th • September Saturday 10th Monday 26th • November Saturday 5th • July Friday 1st Saturday 2nd • October Saturday 8th Monday 24th (Half Term) • December Saturday 3rd • Voucher Holders: Vouchers that were valid through lock-downs were extended and you should have received emails throughout last year with your extended expiry dates. • Private Events/ Others: If you would like to book a private event for 2022 then please get in touch.
